Because So: A Minimalist Concept Store

Exploring the Interaction Between People and Box

Dima recently designed a concept store for Because So, an original new fashion brand, that makes full use of box elements and explores the interaction between people and the concept of a box. The design concept of the store advocates simplicity, massiveness without decoration, and emphasizes the effect of light. With black, white, and gray as the main colors, along with metal lines, the store creates a minimalist box with a strong texture, resulting in a calm and secure atmosphere.

The design of Because So concept store, aptly named "Box," stands out for its uniqueness and originality. It takes inspiration from the simplicity and massiveness of a box, while incorporating elements of light and texture to create a distinct ambiance. The use of black, white, and gray as the main colors, along with the strategic placement of metal lines, adds to the minimalist aesthetic of the space.

Chaoran Liu, the designer behind Because So concept store, explains that the design aims to create a calm and safe atmosphere for customers. The store's interior is carefully crafted to evoke a sense of security and tranquility, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the shopping experience.

One of the unique features of the design is its focus on the interaction between people and the concept of a box. The store encourages visitors to engage with the space and explore the various products on display. The concept of a box, traditionally used for collecting, classifying, and organizing, takes on a new meaning in the context of the store, inviting customers to discover and interact with the curated items.

The Because So concept store is not just a physical space; it is an experience. The design team carefully considered the preferences and cultural aspirations of the brand's target audience, guiding them towards a subliminal and forward-looking experience. By extending customers' preferences in directions they may not have considered, the store creates a harmonious blend of function and beauty.

The realization of the design involved meticulous attention to detail. The art booths within the store, designed for product display, landscape appreciation, and relaxation, reflect the concept of harmony between man and nature. The specifications of the booths were carefully considered, with Art booth 1 measuring 3m x 1.4m x 0.65m and Art booth 2 measuring 6.5m x 0.8m x 1.05m.

The Because So concept store project began in August 2019 in Fuzhou and was completed in November 2019. The location of the store in Fuzhou adds to its unique appeal, as it reflects the designer's deep understanding of the importance of humanity in the living conditions of individuals.

Chaoran Liu faced several challenges during the design process, particularly in identifying the diverse needs of customers and effectively communicating and guiding them. In a market where energy-efficient design is not yet prominent, understanding customers' preferences and guiding them towards a design that suits their way of life proved to be a significant hurdle. However, through continuous guidance and a commitment to creating exceptional experiences, the design team successfully overcame these challenges.

The Because So concept store, designed by Chaoran Liu, has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges the design's creativity, resourcefulness, and incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The design contributes to quality of life improvements and makes a positive impact on the world.
